Christmas Lights and Freebies!

Christmas lights are so magical to me. I just love them.  You can get away with pretending they are just decorative lights when they are in a pretty ball or something- and keep that magic all year long.
I  love about turning them on and seeing them shine.

I shared this post two years ago, and I wanted to share it again in case you didn't see it, because this first activity is still one of my all time favorites. It's magical! I updated all the links so they work.

I used this fabulous Christmas Lights Pattern by Meredith Fitzhenry that she shared at her TPT store.  Thank you, Meredith!

I enlarged it 200 times and printed it on 11x17 paper.

I wrote secret sight words on each paper with a white crayon.  There are some on the paper above and you didn't even know it!   I made each paper different, and the children could watercolor however they wanted.  They loved this!  I got lots of "I love you's!" after this activity, so I knew it was a winner.  My kids love any kind of secret messages. Who doesn't?!

After the children discovered their secret words and read them to me, they wrote them on their paper.

I also enlarged Meredith's paper not quite so big and made some number papers for my little ones who still need some number recognition practice.

We followed this activity up by closing the shades and reading this sweet book that lights up.

Here are some of my favorites that are actually my pins.  I am sharing these because they are three ideas I absolutely LOVE to do with my class in December, and wanted to share with you.  This seemed like a great way to do that. 

1.  Don't forget to check out Santa's Reindeer Cam!  It's lots of fun to have up on the Smart board in the background during Free Choice time.  We just happen to be getting back from our specials right about 11, so we take a few minutes some days and get to enjoy seeing Santa feed the reindeer!  SO exciting!

I took this screen shot the other morning. I loved how the elf was taking Santa's picture!

2. My kids love this activity!   I use this fabulous Christmas Lights Pattern by Meredith Fitzhenry that she shared at her TPT store.  Thank you, Meredith! I enlarge it 200 times and print it on 11x17 paper.  Then, I write sight words on each bulb with a white crayon.  The children paint the bulbs, and ta-da!  Magical words!  Here is my post about this- with TONS of other Christmas light activities.

3. We made this anchor chart after we read The Jacket I Wear in the Snow.  Here is the post about our lesson!

After we did our interactive writing, I had the children label their own pictures!
